🤔 Can I install Stikwood on a surface that bends?Updated 9 months ago
Yes, Stikwood planks are thin and can be used over surfaces with a slight curve.
The fastest way to see if Stikwood will work with your curved wall is to find a straight edge that is 24, 36, or 48 inches long (just pick one). Hold it horizontally against the wall parallel to the ground. The straight edge will be touching the wall on both ends with a gap in the middle.
Measure that gap at its widest point (should be the middle of the straight edge). If the measurement is equal to or less then what is listed below for the size straight edge you used, then Stikwood will work.
- 24˝ straight edge = <=1 inch gap
- 36˝ straight edge = <=2 5/16˝ inch gap
- 48˝ straight edge = <=4 1/8˝ inch gap
If your wall bends outward (convex) the same test will work, just hold the straight edge so the middle is touching the wall, the the gap at each end is the same - then measure measure one of the end gaps.
There have been plenty of Stikwood installed on even tighter curves, but in most of those cases some form of tack/brad/nail was used, and you have to have a bit more waste so you can have more planks to choose from—planks with certain knots and grain patterns will split when bent and you just have to try them to find out.
