🪨 Can I install Stikwood on concrete?Updated 9 months ago
Concrete is not a great surface for Stikwood as it can contain a lot of moisture, and the moisture content can change quickly. we recommend screwing plywood onto the face of the concrete, then prime the plywood and install the stikwood onto the plywood.
Concrete can hold moisture more than other substrates. Stikwood needs a surface with 9% or less moisture. Your concrete might be okay today but after a rainy stretch, the same concrete wall could all of a sudden be closer to 15%. Often times concrete walls are retaining walls, with the outside being exposed directly to the ground or weather which will be very wet.
If you choose the plywood route, you'll want to nail/screw a sheet of primed plywood over your concrete, then install Stikwood onto the plywood after you make sure the plywood is at the right moisture content. Every situation is different so it is hard to give you a definitive answer. I highly recommend testing a sample out to make sure the conditions of your project are compatible with stikwood.
