🎨 Can I paint Stikwood?Updated 9 months ago

We consider all of our products ‘pre-finished’. This means they look beautiful and are ready to be put-up as is, right out of the box. If you want to change the look of Stikwood you can, but we cannot guarantee the results.

Here are some things to consider when thinking about staining or painting Stikwood.

Our only unfinished products are Naturally Reclaimed Weathered Woods and Reclaimed Barrel Oak. These can be painted or stained like any unfinished wood. All of our other products have  a Euorpean Plant-Based Oil finish. We do not recommend painting or staining these.

If you are going to paint or stain one of our products, always test it on a small piece before applying it to your entire order. Remember, that when you stain or paint a wood product you are adding moisture to it, so if the stikwood is already on a wall, this may cause problems when the wood is wet and expands. It would be better to do it prior to installation, allowing the new finish to completely dry AND the wood to re-acclimate to the space. Stikwood always needs to be installed when it has been properly acclimated to the space, meaning it has reached Equilibrium Moisture Content (EMC).

We cannot guarantee a Stikwood order that has a modified finish. You can find out what finish your product comes with on our website.
